Albany International Folk ‘n’ Shanty Festival

Life Tree Celebrants MCed the ticketed events at the Albany International Folk ‘n’ Shanty Festival for the third year in a row in July 2025!

What an amazing line-up, with quite some ‘twists’ this year - there were sea shanties with a Celtic punk flavour with Rumskull; gypsie jazz with a touch of ska from the Witchy Djypsies - that was just the opening night. Saturday night saw the Albany Town Hall transformed into a Scottish event, with Spirit of Alba warming us up for Gallus Ceildih, who lead the ceilidh (Scottish dancing)!

Wilson’s Brewing Company was a new venue for 2025 and Kali & Helen were fortunate to MC the Captain’s Cut shows here on Saturday & Sunday Afternoons! Denmark duo, The Primordial Notes, made their Albany debut before the audience was treated to world renowned singer - Emily Barker!

Then, for the final show, legendary folk singers and raconteurs, Bernard Carney and Peter Bugden shared songs, stories … with a bit of humour thrown in! The concert closed with ‘The Stranded Wailers’, a men’s shanty group from Tassie, performing songs of the sea, shore, land … and the tavern - their harmonies were outstanding!

Helen closes the opening night of the 2025 Albany International Folk ‘n’ Shanty Festival at the Town Hall!
